ten asparagus fingers
pale and shrivelled from the sun
sticking out of painted clay jars
don’t know when it all began

days ago they were so juicy
days ago they were so white
now they’re just a bunch of rubbish
rotting gently seized with blight

hey let’s cook a funny soup
we can mix a strong white blend
and then we feed it to a group
of people that we just can’t stand

and a waning moon shone lately
shedding light on the sad scene
wrinkled vegetable craters,
cuts and wounds looked so obscene

ten asparagus headmen
trying to get by somehow
show their vegetable pillars
how to feel rundown and low

melt some butter
take some flour
make it blend
and make it soar
add some water
from a cup
cook it boil it
stir it up

and in the end just take
the withered and the rotten asparagus tips
and in the end you’ve got all of the sudden
a poisoned asparagus mix
